Clark and Kelly's Home: The Promise of Shingles (in a good way)

So we've been told that we'll have shingles as soon as Monday. Not sure how that's going to work out for us with only the garage trussed and sheeted but we'll see...Today we have some photos of the trusses from the second floor. We don't go up to the second floor everyday - mostly because it requires climbing an 8ft ladder that is just shy of the 9ft height of the upstairs - perhaps someday soon we'll have an acutal staircase, but that's a discussion for another day.

Anyway, Clark designed the house with a hip roof. The crazy part of our hip roof system is that the pitch is extremely low, only 12:4 (for every 12 inches of run, there is only 4 inches of rise.) We would have prefered a flat roof entirely, except that could lead to other problems. So, we did the next best thing with the 12:4 pitch. Because of this lowness, there really is no attic to speak of. When you are standing upstairs, you can really get a sense of the fact that will only be a miniscule amount of "crawl space" down the center of the house. As you get closer to the outside walls, the roof line gets closer and closer to what will be the ceiling of the second floor.
