Ground Breaking Day!

Without the fanfare we had been hoping for, we officially broke ground on Wednesday, August 12. Just getting to this point has been a year and 8 months in the making but we are so excited to finally begin! Our plans for a ground-breaking party have unfortunately been scrapped - of course, that just means that the "grand opening" party will be that much bigger.

The excavators dug the foundation of the house throughout the day. In the end, we now have a large hole, although not terribly deep, with a tremendous amount of dirt surrounding the edges of the foundation footprint. The photo here doesn't do justice to the size of the hole as it is taken from the northwest corner of the property, standing on what will eventually be our driveway.
